I totally love my BlackBerry, but totally hated the silver case it came in. Similar to Henry Ford with his Model T, Verizon says: "You can have your Blackberry 8830 in any color you want, so long as it's silver."

Phooey, I say.

I ordered a new shell kit and keyboard from CellularNationwideNetwork.com. Now my Blackberry is, well, black. Like a BlackBerry should be.

The case installed in about 20 minutes. I love the new keyboard--it is far easier to see than the silver, blue-backlit one. Not pictured is a black neoprene rubber skin I picked up when I swapped it out at Verizon when I was having that Bluetooth problem. It'll keep the new case free of dings and scratches. The thing scratches super-easy.

I now have the perfect latest-last-cellphone-I-will-ever-own. Hee!

and the backlit keyboard is now what color?

This is SO almost worth voiding my warranty.

See, but my phone's insured... if I do anything to it, i'd lose the insurance too. Right now it's $110 for a new berry if i ever break/lose/get stolen.

Refresh the link. There's a much better picture up there now.

If you buy the kit from CNN, you will not void the warranty. Swapping the case is really easy--you can do it yourself in twenty minutes. Here's how, and you needn't go past step four. The CNN kit comes with all the tools you need to do the job--a Torx wrench and a prybar.

Keep your pld case, and if your 8830 needs service, just put it back in the old case. Simple!

Oh, no. The backlighting is a soft, diffused, high-contrast white.

It's fantastic. Significantly easier to see.

Oh--and if your Berry gets stolen, how the heck are they ever going to know it was in a different case? :-D
