Big Band!
A co-worker of mine plays alto sax in a volunteer Big Band at the American Leigon post in Ft. Lauderdale. I off-handedly asked him if they needed a vocalist, and he said that he wouldn't mind if I sat in at a rehersal.
Wow, what fun!
There's absolutely nothing like a Big Band. I was rusty on a few of the standards, but I had a blast nonetheless! And they want me to come back and be their regular vocalist! Cool! |

Oh, man, that rocks! Big Band is my favorite. I know 'em all! I think I might still have my father's cheatbook from when he played piano and sang in a nightclub, lotta years ago. I'll see if I can find it.
"Pennsylvania six, five oh oh oh!"
How often do they rehearse/perform? Where? You reckon I could come and listen sometime? I've always, always said, in another incarnation I was a bluesy singer in a little piano bar. I just know it.
"I'll live a lush life in some small diiiiiiive... and there I'll be til I rot with the rest... of those whose lives are lonely... tooooooooo."
My, oh my, they don't write 'em like that anymore... I mean who else would rhyme awful with troughful?
I got that they rehearse at the American Legion Hall. But where do they perform? Just for the AL?
Goes off humming standards in her head.
do you hear the beat gets you in the mood .......

I hope it's in your repertoire. It's my favorite standard and I'd like to hear it done by a tenor.
