First-generation SunPass toll collectors [Jul. 9th, 2008|02:40 pm]
Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
Wow!

An eBay auction for two first-generation SunPass toll collectors just wrapped up for a hundred bucks!

These are the first SunPass transponders out there. Y'know, the ones that used to tell you your balance without having to log onto that obnoxious website of theirs.

Ah, man, I threw mine away!!! I figured so many of them had been made that they wouldn't be worth anything, so after I got a ticket when it malfunctioned on the Sawgrass, I got a new one. Geez!

I have yet to be able to log on to their website, because I have no way of knowing my account number or the number associated with my transponder. It's ridiculous. I need to update my credit card info, and will have to resort to calling and waiting for a service rep. User friendly website, eh?

I used to have one of those. When I first got my Jetta, I hadn't put the Velcro strips on the inside windshield to hold it in place like it had been in my civic, so it was sitting on the dash. I had the windows down and made a left turn at University and Wiles. In slow motion I watched the transponder slide across the dash and bounce right out the window and shatter into a million pieces.

I still have the old one and I have done the "un velcro slide" out the window more than once... guess I have been lucky, mine never shattered, just the battery cover came off.
I've been actively using it since it was new so my disply is all faded out and you can't read it, but it still works by gawd!

Do you want mine?

Since I don't live in FL anymore...

And it's still more or less in the silver sleeve it came with when I went to the Auto Parts store and got it (I believe it was free...).

:O)
